How to Roast Garlic Asparagus in Oven

    1. Preheat - heat oven to 400°F (200°C).
    2. Prepare - cut the woody ends off the asparagus. Place asparagus and garlic on a baking sheet. Drizzle generously with Olive Oil and toss.
    3. Roast - spread asparagus and garlic evenly across a baking sheet. Roast for about 12-15 minutes until firm yet tender when pierced with a fork.
    4. Season - drizzle with Lemon Juice, sprinkle Salt Flakes and serve immediately.

How to Roast Garlic Asparagus in Air Fryer

An Air Fryer is such a time saver, compact and more economical than an oven. This method allows you to keep your oven free for Roast Lamb or Prime Rib Roast.

    1. Preheat - set Air Fryer to 400°F (200°C).
    2. Prepare - cut the woody ends off the asparagus. Drizzle asparagus and garlic generously with Olive Oil and toss. Spread the Asparagus and garlic evenly across the Air Fryer tray.
    3. Air Fry - roast asparagus for about 8 minutes, shaking half way through cooking process. Add 2 minutes for thicker asparagus spears.
    4. Season - drizzle with Lemon Juice, sprinkle Salt Flakes and serve immediately.

    Roasted Asparagus Variations

    • Cheesy Garlic Parmesan - generously sprinkle Parmesan Cheese over the Roasted Asparagus (or Parmesan and Mozzarella) and return to Oven or Air Fryer for 1-2 minutes until melted
    • Balsamic - add 2 tablespoons of Balsamic Vinegar when tossing with Olive Oil. When it cooks, it becomes a sweet and tangy glaze. Can also drizzle with Balsamic Glaze before serving
    • Harissa Asparagus - add 1 tablespoon of Harissa Paste into Olive Oil when tossing before roasting
    • Bacon Wrapped Asparagus - wrap individual spears of Asparagus with half a rasher of bacon before roasting. Can also wrap bundles of 3 to 4 Asparagus
    • Nutty Asparagus - toast Slivered Almonds, Pine Nuts or Walnuts and sprinkle over Asparagus before serving
    • Roasted Vegetables - toss Mushrooms and Cherry Tomatoes together with the Asparagus for a roasted Vegetable medley

    Recipe Tips and FAQs

    • Choosing Asparagus - roasting time depends on the thickness of your asparagus spears. Try to choose asparagus spears that are the same thickness to ensure they cook evenly. Thinner Asparagus cook faster and are more tender
    • Dry Thoroughly - after washing, pat dry. Moisture prevents browning and crispiness, especially in the Air Fryer
    • Don't Crowd It - roast only a single layer of asparagus to ensure even roasting
    • Air Fry in Batches - if roasting more than 1 pound or 500g, roast in smaller batches
    • Seasoning - try Montreal Steak Spice or Everything But the Bagel seasoning instead of salt
    • Double It - easily scales up on the baking sheet in the oven - the Air Fryer might require several batches (keep warm in oven)

Can I Make Roasted Asparagus in Advance?

Roasted Asparagus is best cooked and served right away. You want them to be tender with a bit of a crunch. As they cool, they can become chewy and soggy. However, you can prepare and season Asparagus a day in advance and keep refrigerated in airtight container. Cook fresh when ready to eat.

    • Pasta - toss through your pasta or Sheet Pan Gnocchi
    • Salads - add to your salad for flavor and texture

    Storage and Reheating

    • Fridge - place in an airtight container and keep refrigerated for 3-4 days.
    • Reheating - Heat Air Fryer to 350°F (180°C) for about 3 minutes and Oven to 375°F (190°C) until heated through. Avoid a microwave as it makes it soggy.

How Do I Know Garlic Asparagus Is Done?

It should b bright green, fork tender but still have a bit of a crunch. Garlic does cook faster than Asparagus, toss thoroughly in oil, and stir halfway through cooking (or add halfway through). Also thin Garlic slices cook better than minced Garlic which burns faster.
