This Poppy Seed Dressing recipe is a quick and easy salad dressing that you won't be able to get enough of. Zesty, sweet and tangy, pairs perfectly with a Spinach Salad! When I tried it, I wanted to drink it!

    Are Poppy Seeds illegal?

Poppy Seeds have been used in cooking for thousands of years. It's the seed harvested from the opium poppy. The same poppy that morphine and codeine is made from. Poppy Seeds are prohibited in Singapore, Taiwan, UAE, and China.

But it's not dangerous to eat! Any impact is minimal, not enough to impair you in any way. That's why you can buy it in every supermarket! It's popular in Poppy Seed Bagels and Poppy Seed Rolls.

How to make Poppy Seed Dressing

Like all salad dressings, this is so easy to make. Simply whisk the ingredients together and you are ready to go! And it tastes better when made in advance.

Crushed Onion is the secret to the flavor in this recipe. To crush (pulverise) the onion, I simply use a garlic press to squeeze through a bit of onion. The minced onion and onion juice is added to the dressing. Take care not to add chunky pieces of onion. You just want the extra zing of onion flavour, without biting into a piece of onion. Fresh onion juice is the secret to all my salad dressings.

When I worked in a restaurant in my early 20's, we made this every springtime as soon as the California strawberries came into season in the supermarket. It's part of a Strawberry Spinach Salad with Cheese that pairs perfectly with this recipe.

    Poppyseed Salad Dressing Variations

My Poppy Seed Salad Dressing recipe has Sesame Seeds in it, which add flavor and texture to the salad dressing. This isn't an Asian Poppy Seed dressing. It has no Soy Sauce or Asian flavors. It's also dairy free. It might surprise you that this isn't a Vegan recipe. Worcestershire sauce contains fish, so this is a Pescatarian recipe, but not Vegan.

There are many styles of Poppy Seed Salad dressings out there. Creamy ones made with mayo or yogurt, others made with mustards, orange juice or balsamic vinegar. This recipe is by far my favorite.

Enjoy it with Kale salads, Spinach Salads or even Broccoli Salads. I think it goes well with stronger vegetable type salads, instead of the iceberg varieties. It's a sweet and tangy salad dressing that leaves you wanting more.
