Pesto Mayo is the perfect condiment that adds an Italian flair to your meals! Whether generously slathered on a sandwich, or used a dip for potato wedges or on a chicken burger, this recipe won't disappoint. It's ridiculously easy to make, you don't need to ever buy it from a supermarket!

    What's Pesto?

Pesto is a classic Italian sauce made with  blended fresh basil, garlic, pine nuts and parmesan. Many people use a food processor when making homemade pesto. I like to make homemade pesto the old fashioned way, using a pestle and mortar. There is something therapeutic about pounding fresh basil into a sauce. And of course the fragrant smell of fresh basil, can't be beat. A fresh taste of Italy. When you have homegrown basil, it's an easy recipe to use up all the herbs. However, for this recipe I am using store-bought pesto, because it's winter in Australia.

    Does Pesto Mayo Have Nuts?

Pesto Mayo is made with pine nuts, which are the seeds from pine trees. These are not part of the peanut family, but are lumped in with tree nut allergies. Technically it's a seed, but linked to nuts. So if you have nut allergies, it's probably best to avoid pesto, unless you are 100% sure you aren't allergic to pine nuts. Unfortunately it's not a nut allergy free recipe.

Is the Type of Mayo Important?

Being Russian, we love our mayo. I mean really love it. Of course the type of mayo you use makes a difference. You could make homemade mayo, which is lovely, but this is an easy recipe. Store-bought works perfectly as long as it's the right mayo! I always use Hellman's Mayonnaise, Best Foods or Heinz Mayo. Using the wrong mayo will impact the taste and texture. Japanese Mayo like Kewpie (usually in a funny shaped bottle) also works great when making this recipe.

Like I mentioned, this Pesto Mayonnaise recipe is ridiculously easy to make. Mix together pesto and mayonnaise together and you're done! You just need to get the ratios right. It's the perfect dipping sauce for your french fries, or adding that extra fresh zing to your sandwiches. The tastiest condiment, ready in seconds. Bon Appetit! Приятного аппетита!

I just made the same thing for myself, out of my refrigerator, and thought was excellent so I came via Google to find out if others had posted the same idea, and you had! It's so easy and yummy that I just want to concur with the author here, that it's worthwhile! I'm using it as a dip but of course, it could also be used as a spread. Ideally, use the best quality mayonnaise and pesto that you can find (with natural ingredients).
