This family friendly Virgin Pina Colada recipe is so easy to make, all you need is a few ingredients and a blender! If I have a pineapple at home, I always chop up a few piece of pineapple into the blender for extra flavour and texture.
Origins of Pina Colada
The Pina Colada has been the national drink of Puerto Rico since 1978. According to Wikipedia, Pina Colada is a sweet cocktail made with rum, coconut cream or coconut milk, and pineapple juice, usually served either blended or shaken with ice.
The name Pina Colada literally means "strained pineapple", a reference to the freshly pressed and strained pineapple juice used in the drink's preparation. Now most of us don't have freshly pressed pineapple juice and fresh coconuts available, which is why this drink is so easy, we just buy the ready made juice.
I'm making a family friendly Virgin Pina Colada, which is alcohol free, but you can adjust the recipe as required. It's so easy to make, just 2 ingredients blended with ice. You can add sugar syrup if you'd like it sweeter, as sometimes pineapple juice can be sour.
I love drinking this with my family, sitting by the pool on a summer's day, feels so tropical. Bon Appetit! Приятного аппетита!
